Neighborhoods Silver Lake
Silver Lake is a hilly neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, California. To the east of Hollywood and northwest of Downtown Los Angeles, Silver Lake is inhabited by an eclectic gathering of hipsters and the creative class. The neighborhood was named for Water Board Commissioner Herman Silver, who was instrumental in the creation of the Silver Lake Reservoir, located within the neighborhood. Silver Lake contains some of the most famous modernist architecture in North America. Architect Richard Neutra, designer of many homes in the area, built his own home on Silver Lake Blvd. The house still exists, and is visited by architecture fans and students. Neutra’s offices were nearby on Glendale Boulevard.
Top Five Reasons Silver Lake Will NOT Make Your Jeans Skinnier
1. THE BEAUTIFUL HILLS
You don’t have to have a mansion in Beverly Hills or Hollywood Hills to get the morning coffee sipping, smile-inducing view you’ve always wanted. From many Silver Lake homes you can get views of the rolling hills around the neighborhood. You can also see views of the actual lake in Silver Lake, or “Silver Lake Reservoir”, and some spectacular Downtown Los Angeles vistas. Silver Lake homes with hillside views, available through your LA Home Girl, will place you in that house in the hills you’ve always wanted.
2. YOU CAN WALK TO FUN
The great thing about Silver Lake is that you can walk to just about anything. Places like Intelligentsia, Silver Lake Wine, and all sorts of great shops in the Sunset Junction area are perfect for a free afternoon to enjoy the weather and take in people watching and caffeine. You’ll also find great bars along the way, top-notch restaurants, and parks.
3. JOG AROUND THE RESERVOIR
One of the most underappreciated things about living in a Silver Lake home is the actual use of the LAKE! It’s called a reservoir, but for LA standards, that sucker is a lake. It’s awesome for runners and walkers. Sit and read a book, get some exercise, or just relax next to a LAKE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! We’re not gonna lie, of course, the reservoir has been drained for a while because of the downer that is the DROUGHT, but hopefully they’ll fill it soon and we can enjoy those gorgeous lakeside views again.
4. TAKE ME OUT TO THE PARK
Dodger Stadium is a hop and skip from any Silver Lake Home, perfect for us Dodger fans (go Blue!). If you’re a diehard fan of the sport, you can catch some youth games up in Elysian Park at fields on top of the hill with spectacular views of the area. Speaking of EYLSIAN PARK, have we talked about EYLSIAN PARK yet? Oh yeah, it’s right in your backyard. Hiking, cooking out, FRISBEE GOLF FOR FREE, and beautiful views.
5. INSPIRING ARCHITECTURE
The architecture of Silver Lake homes bounce around between the cute and cozy Spanish Mediterranean style. Throw in some of the premier modernist styles from the 1930’s (including work from architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, John Lautner, and Gregory Ain), and you’ve got that funky eclectic neighborhood you’ve always wanted to be a part of.
