Keeping It Real Estate!

Sales Up, Mortgages UP, HURRY!

There’s a tight window forming here for buyers, and you might want to take advantage. Home sales are up, with numbers in July climbing 17% higher than the year before in the same month, and 6.5% from the previous month. However, mortgage rates are moving up as well, which is going to decrease the number of buyers who go out there looking for a new home. The mortgage rate will likely go up more in the next few months, but the amount of buyers will go down, so it is possible prices will stay low over the next few months due to less demand. If you’re in a position to buy a home now with a mortgage, it’s a good time to take advantage of a slowing in buyers and a mortgage rate that will only get higher soon. If you’re interested in taking advantage of this window of opportunity, or if you’re just interested in learning more about the […]

We’re deep into the wildfire season here in Southern California, and we’ve already faced some devastating property and human damage. We here at the LA Home Girl would love to find you a new home, or help you sell your current home, BUT we also want you to protect the home you love for years to come. Here are some tips to help prepare your home for wildfires. -Shut your windows to protect against flying embers -Open the fireplace damper to ventilate the house, and prevent deadly gas and smoke from pooling inside the house. -Shut off the gas and propane lines. DO NOT SHUT OFF THE WATER OR ELECTRICITY -Turn your lights on to assist firefighters in telling the difference between drifting smoke and roaring flames. You can also do some landscaping around your house that can assist in preventing the spread of wildfire to your home. (Illustration by Merce Iglesias, courtesy of Popular Mechanics)

Mortgage Options Changing, May Increase Costs

With the housing market recovering, the Obama administration is considering “winding down” the involvement of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. For years these institutions have been in place to provide government assistance to home mortgage seekers, but have always had a shelf life. That time is coming soon. While there theoretically will be a leveling off of rates once the market works together with the private mortgage companies, it’s important to understand the possibility of a major spike in mortgage rates once Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s involvement officially winds down. With that being said, it might be a good idea to take advantage of the current situation and mortgage rates, along with an ever increasing median home cost. If you’re interested in finding out more about the ever-changing, ever-improving housing market, and to look at some amazing homes available to you in the Los Angeles area, make sure you contact the LA Home Girl. Feel a little dumbfounded by […]

Mortgage Rates Level Out, Home Prices Rising

Some good news, the mortgage rates have leveled off. In fact, some rate averages have shown signs of decreasing, which is great for the home buyer right now. The rising mortgage rates have had a double-edged effect on the market, with some buyers scrambling for purchase mortgages to get a reasonable rate before they increase even more, but rising mortgage rates have also reduced the demand for refinancing. Now, with the numbers leveling off and even showing decreased rates, combined with still steadily increasing home prices, it’s important to understand just how good of a time this is to buy a house — because all signs are pointing to higher mortgage rates and higher prices. There are neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area that have experienced some pretty remarkable transformations over the past decade or two, and some are even finding themselves onto national lists that find some of the best cities and towns for buying real estate. Usually they […]

Soaring Home Prices in California, Major Happenings!

In June of this year, housing prices increased by more than 30 percent, and that’s with a slightly rising inventory as well. This is more than an encouraging sign for the housing market. Recently, prices have been going up, marking a great trend for home owners and buyers as their investments began to show signs of profit, and at least a return to even, and home buyers are recognizing the recovery and chomping at the bit to buy new homes. However, the inventory was still low because many home sellers were still waiting out changes in the market, hoping for even more home price increases. Well, they got it, and now we’re looking at a VERY promising summer of good prices, steady increases, and a strengthened inventory of houses going up for sale. It should be a fantastic summer and fall for the housing market here in Southern California. If you’re interested in jumping on the wave and getting a […]
